Summary
No accounts, no analytics, no tracking. Your collection is stored on your device and, if you turn on sync, in your own private iCloud account. It is never sent to the developer, and it is never sold or shared for advertising.
Who we are
Cellar Pro is developed by Shankar Dutt and published by DuttLabs (“we”, “us”). We do not run servers that receive your collection, so in most cases we never hold your personal data. You can reach us at shankar@shankardutt.com.
What the app stores on your device
To provide its features, Cellar Pro stores the following in the app’s private storage on your device:
- Collection records: bottle names, producers, vintages, regions, types, quantities, prices, values, drinking windows, ratings and any other fields you fill in.
- Photos you take or choose for bottles and labels.
- Tasting notes, consumption history and professional ratings you record.
- Storage locations, rack positions, and any temperature and humidity readings you log for them.
- Settings, such as your currency, alert preferences and display options.
This information stays on your device unless you turn on iCloud sync, export it yourself, or use one of the optional services below.
Camera and photos
Cellar Pro asks for camera access so you can photograph bottles, capture labels and scan barcodes. It asks for photo library access so you can pick existing photos. Each permission is optional. If you decline, the rest of the app still works.
Label scanning runs entirely on your device using Apple’s text recognition. Label images are never uploaded to us or anyone else for recognition.
Optional services you choose to use
Barcode lookup (Open Food Facts)
When you scan a barcode, Cellar Pro sends only the barcode number to Open Food Facts, a public product database, to look up product details. As with any web request, Open Food Facts also receives your IP address and basic technical information about the request. No collection notes or other personal content are sent. Price lookup links
Price lookup opens a search on Vivino, Wine-Searcher, Wine.com or CellarTracker in your browser, only when you tap one. The search includes bottle details such as the name, producer and vintage so the site can show relevant results. Those sites’ own privacy policies apply once they open.
Files you export
JSON backups and CSV exports are created on your device and go wherever you choose to save or share them. Batch import reads only the file or clipboard text you select.
iCloud sync
If you turn on sync, your collection is stored in the private iCloud database of your Apple ID and synced to your devices signed in to that Apple ID. That data is held by Apple under Apple’s Privacy Policy. We cannot see or access it. You can turn sync off at any time in the app or in your device settings.
Widgets, Shortcuts and Apple Watch
Widgets, Shortcuts actions and Focus filters read a summary of your collection, such as bottle counts, total value and what is ready to drink, through a shared container on the same device. To show your collection on Apple Watch, the iPhone app sends a similar summary directly to your paired Watch. None of this passes through our servers. The app may also use background refresh to keep widgets up to date on your device.
Notifications
With your permission, Cellar Pro schedules local notifications on your device for drinking windows, an optional weekly digest, and storage temperature or humidity alerts. These are created by the app itself. We do not use a push notification server. You can turn them off in the app or in your device settings.
Purchases
Apple processes all payments through the App Store. Cellar Pro receives only the status of your subscription or Lifetime purchase from StoreKit, so it can unlock the app. We never see your payment details, name or email address.
What we never do
- We do not use analytics, advertising or crash-reporting SDKs.
- We do not track you across apps or websites.
- We do not sell or rent personal information, or share it for advertising.
- We do not require an account or collect your email address in the app.
Data retention and deletion
Your data stays until you delete it. You can:
- Delete individual bottles, locations, notes and photos in the app.
- Delete the app to remove everything stored on that device.
- If you used iCloud sync, remove Cellar Pro’s iCloud data in your device’s iCloud storage settings (Settings, then your name, then iCloud, then manage storage).
If you email us, we keep the conversation only as long as needed to help you, and delete it on request.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the Australian Privacy Act and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct, delete, export or restrict the use of your personal information. Because your collection stays on your devices and in your own iCloud, you can exercise most of these rights directly in the app, for example by editing records or exporting a backup. For anything else, or to ask what information we hold (normally only support emails), contact us. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Age
Cellar Pro is about collecting alcoholic drinks and is meant only for adults of legal drinking age in their country or region, and at least 18. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger.
This website
This site uses no cookies, analytics, trackers or third-party fonts. It is hosted on GitHub Pages, which may log standard technical information such as IP addresses for security, as described in GitHub’s privacy statement. The contact form simply opens your own email app.
Changes to this policy
If the app changes how it handles information, we will update this page and its effective date before the change takes effect.
